About Back 2 Life Computer
Building machines and fixing equipment for people was always a hobby. I graduated from collage with a diploma as a certified Microcomputer Service Technician and In 1997 I started Ken-Tech Computers with my Business Partner Ray. We operated the business until 2004 together, before parting ways he continued to operate the business but took it in another direction, concentrating on communication equipment (Cell Phones Satellite Phones and TV Satellite equipment) I started working at Wabush Mines as their only IT resource and continued until the Mine closed in 2014. At that point I was the IT site Manager for Scully Mine. The Company that owned Wabush Mines moved me up to Bloom Lake in Québec just outside of Fermont where I could work at Bloom and support the remaining operation at Wabush. That position was short lived as Cliffs Natural Resources closed that Mine too, but quickly I was snapped up by IOC, first as a I.T. Analyst on the Desktop team and now as the Operations Center IT Specialist, responsible for the development and maintenance of the technology at the IOC OPS Center.
In 2019, we had an interesting year. I was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma, and my wife and I found out we were going to have a baby. Off to St John’s we moved for me to get treatment and have a baby. I spent 8 months in and out of the Hospital getting Chemo Treatments, during that time (In June) little Abigail was born. We returned to Wabush in September and I started the road to recovery, the Doctors told me that I had a lot of work to do if I was going to be able to go back to work by my goal Feb of 2020. I managed it, Got a personal trainer to help me with my physical limitations, and worked my ass off.
Just as I managed to get settled in and back to work COVID 19 hit and I had to do what a lot of IT people ended up having to do, work from home. While I was working from home, I had a little extra time to tinker and build computers. It was in May 2020 that I decided that I would go official and open a business, but what would I call it? Ken-Tech had folded back in March, I couldn’t go there again….. nah, I need something new. Being a big fan of zombie movies, I toyed with a zombie theme, but suddenly it popped into my head, I’m taking old computers in my basement and bringing them back to life, not too different from what the doctors did to me. Let’s play with that, So eventually I chose Back 2 Life Computer.
